National Policies

Vision for an Independent and Sovereign Australia

Australia’s sovereignty, peace, and prosperity depend on rejecting foreign subservience, unnecessary wars, and the flawed AUKUS pact, while embracing regional cooperation, parliamentary control over war powers, and transitioning to a republic. Establishing a truly independent foreign policy will allow Australia to prioritise its national interest, foster economic collaboration with regional neighbours, and avoid entanglement in conflicts driven by foreign powers. A republic would ensure governance is directly accountable to the Australian people.

Rebuilding Australia’s Banking System

The Australian Citizens Party advocates for a public Aussie Post Bank to break the dominance of the Big Four banks, ensuring accessible, low-cost banking services for all Australians. This bank would invest in nation-building infrastructure, support manufacturing, agriculture, and provide financial security to homeowners facing crises. By implementing banking separation laws, opposing the RBA Reforms Bill, and designating banking as an essential service, the ACP envisions a secure, community-focused banking system that meets the needs of Australians for the long term.

Return integrity to public governance

We need to overhaul Australia’s governance to ensure integrity, transparency, and accountability. This includes replacing ASIC with a more focused companies regulator, banning corporate donations, and making public service about serving the people, not external interests. Reforms should protect whistleblowers, ensure justice for financial victims, and promote investment in the real economy over speculation. A humane, visionary immigration policy can support sustainable growth across regional Australia while upholding democratic values.

Return to Affordable Housing

To tackle Australia’s housing affordability issue, a National Housing Authority should be established to coordinate assistance with state housing authorities. The public Aussie Post Bank will provide loans for the development of rental properties at economic rates. Reforms to negative gearing and capital gains tax discounts are essential to encourage affordable housing supply, reduce speculative activity, and ensure sustainable growth. Thresholds for these reforms will be determined in consultation with local authorities and regularly reviewed.

Revitalise our healthcare system

Australia is facing a severe shortage of healthcare professionals, with a projected gap of over 5,000 GPs by 2033. To address this, the government must urgently expand healthcare resources by funding more medical and nursing school places, increasing clinical staff, and enhancing infrastructure such as beds, hospitals, and technology. Additionally, a Royal Commission into the COVID-19 response is necessary to ensure transparency and apply lessons learned for future public health challenges, maintaining public trust in governance.

Return to energy security

Australia must return to state ownership of electricity to restore a reliable, affordable, and efficient energy system. Privatisation has caused instability and prioritised private interests over public needs, leading to rising costs and inadequate service. Repealing the prohibition on nuclear power is essential to harness advanced technologies like nuclear fusion, ensuring Australia can lead in sustainable, safe, and resilient energy solutions. This approach will enable us to embrace both traditional and innovative energy sources, fostering a secure, environmentally responsible future for all Australians.

Invest in national food & fuel security

The Australian Citizens Party prioritises enhancing Australia’s fuel and food security to safeguard against global disruptions and ensure independence. This includes increasing minimum stockholding obligations for fuel, expanding domestic refining capacity, and reviving state-owned resources like the Petroleum and Minerals Authority. For food security, policies will support family farmers with affordable credit, parity pricing, and protection against corporate agribusiness dominance. Additionally, breaking the Coles-Woolworths duopoly will create a more competitive market, benefiting consumers and producers alike.

In Riverina, the Australian Citizens Party stands for policies that prioritise local communities — supporting family farms, boosting regional infrastructure, and ensuring access to affordable, reliable banking and resources. We are dedicated to building a resilient, independent Riverina for the future.
